You can get books on the letter G from a lot of places, and this includes buying them from stores or borrowing them from the library. Be sure to choose a letter G book that has pictures and nursery rhymes if possible.

Is there a G in your child’s name? If there is then you can have a lot of fun spelling out their name with cut-out or magnetic letters. Point out to them where G occurs in their name. Some Great Letter G Activities For Preschool Kids

Look At Home For Things That Start With The Letter G

It is time to go looking for those things in your home that begin with the letter G. There are always more of these than you think, but to give you a start think about glue, gloves, glass, grill, garden, grapes, grass and game. Maybe you have a grandma and grandpa at home and possibly a girl?

What about the words that your child will hear spoken by adults, older brothers or sisters, on the TV or by others visiting your home? There are lots of possibilities here including grain, garage, green, great, grind, grow, garbage, gift and grey. Make this real for your child by showing pictures of objects or the real thing.

Then there are the words with the letter G in them but not at the beginning. There are certainly a few of these and for kids you can be thinking egg, bug, rug, big, night, right, bag, tag, beg, leg, dog, fog and so on. Always remember that just talking about these words will not be as good as showing the words spelled out so your child can see the letter G.

Make it a point to find as many things inside and outside your home that either start with G or have a G in them. Call this the “G words game”. When you are outside with your child look for road and street signs, or things in the store.

Letter G Animals

All kids love animals so find as many animals that start with the letter G as you can. Most kids will be familiar with giraffe and goat and maybe even grizzly bear but try to teach them about other animals such as goose, gorilla and gecko.

Move on to animals that have the letter G in their name but not at the beginning. An easy example is dog, and then there is alligator, angelfish and badger. Did you forget tiger, cougar, frog and eagle? When you are showing pictures of these animals to your toddler, be sure to spell out the letters of their names and ask them to show you where the letter G is.

Show Them Pictures Of The Letter G

It is really important that your child learn the difference between big letter G (capital letter G) and the small letter G (lowercase letter G). The best way to do this is to show them pictures of the letter G in both formats.

Explain to them when a capital G would be used, such as at the start of somebody’s name, and you can even get them to trace the letter G formats. This will help with their letter G writing and understanding of the big letter/small letter concept.
